Trust and security
Patent-pending technologyTrust you can check.
We'd rather tell you exactly what we promise than promise more than we can prove.
What we promise
- Your own work runs on your own machines.
- When a job goes to the network, identifying details never leave your node.
- Work you mark private never reaches the network.
- Every credit earned and spent is recorded and can be checked.
- We never train Ai on your conversations.
What we don't promise
- That network work is invisible to the machines that process it. That's why your identifying details stay home, and why sensitive work should stay on your own hardware.
- That home hardware is as dependable as a data center. That's why the network is built to carry on when a machine drops out.
Where your work runs
| Setting | Where it runs | What leaves your machines |
|---|---|---|
| Local (default) | Your own GPUs | Nothing |
| Private | Your machines only, even if that's slower | Nothing |
| Network | Your machines plus certified network machines | The work itself, never your identifying details |
Our software on your computer
Clear boundaries, in writing.
Installing VirtualGiant shouldn't mean trusting us with your whole computer. The client is built to touch only what it needs to run Ai on your GPU, and nothing else. Here is exactly where the line is.
What the client can access
- Your GPUs: to run work, and to read their model, memory, temperature, power and how busy they are.
- Basic system details: Windows version, processor, memory and free disk space, so it can check your machine meets the requirements.
- Its own folder: model files and work in progress, within a disk limit you set.
- Its own internet connection to VirtualGiant, encrypted, plus a speed test to our servers.
- Whether your GPU is in use by something else, so it can step aside. It doesn't record which apps you run.
- Files you choose to give it when you use the platform yourself, such as a document you drop into a chat.
What the client never accesses
- Your documents, photos and other files outside its folder, unless you hand one to it
- Your browser, history, passwords, email or messages
- Your screen, camera, microphone or keystrokes
- What other apps are doing, or what's inside them
- Other devices on your home network
- Remote control of your computer: no one at VirtualGiant can log in to it or run commands on it
What leaves your machine
- Your hardware details and test results
- Health readings: temperature, load and uptime
- Results of network work your machine did, and the records of credits earned
- Your own overflow jobs, with identifying details removed first
- Crash reports, only if you turn them on
Your own local work stays on your machine. Nothing is sold, and nothing is used for advertising.
You're in control
- Pause with one click; set hours, heat, power, disk and data limits
- See a plain-language log of everything the client has done
- Uninstall and it removes its folder, its service and its keys
- Export your data at any time
- Delete your account at any time
Other members' work stays boxed in
Network work runs in an isolated space on your machine. It can't reach your files, and you can't see what's inside it. The client runs only software and models we've signed, and never installs anything else.
Least privilege
Installation asks for administrator approval once, to set up the client. After that it runs with limited permissions, not as an administrator, and updates arrive signed, with release notes you can read.
Shown before you install
The installer shows this same list of permissions before you agree. If we ever need a new one, we'll ask you first, and you can say no.
Checked by outsiders
We're planning an independent security review of the client before public launch, and we welcome reports at [security contact].
Keeping the network honest
Credits have value, so we assume some people will try to cheat. Our patent-pending integrity checks are designed so that cheating costs far more than it could ever earn.
Work is checked
Results are verified continuously, and members can't tell which work is being checked.
Credits wait for checks
Earned credits become spendable a few days later, once checks on that work clear.
Fair to honest members
A slower card isn't cheating. Honest hardware gets the work it can do, never a penalty.
People decide bans
Permanent bans and forfeited credits always get human review.
Security, by design
One machine, one identity
Each machine has a verified identity that can't be copied to another, so one GPU can't pose as many.
Signed software only
The client runs only software and model files we've signed.
Encrypted everywhere
Every connection is encrypted and authenticated, and stored records are encrypted.
A ledger nobody can quietly rewrite
Credits are kept in a tamper-evident ledger that members can verify, us included.
Notice before changes
Changes to credit rates, penalties or rules are announced before they take effect.
No coin, no token
Credits can't be bought at launch, sold, cashed out or traded.
